The Flamboro Rejects were declared the winning team of Thursday’s final for the inaugural handicapping league offered by Racetracks of Ontario Marketing & Promotions (ROMP)
.
The Flamboro Downs team took the lion’s share of the $14,500 grand prize with a bankroll of $104.00 based on hypothetical $2 win and place wagers over 10 races from Woodbine Racetrack, the Meadowlands and Rideau Carleton Raceway.
Flamboro Rejects members OJ Poliziani, Bob Smith and Mike Zess will share $7,250.
The runners-up are as follows:
• Second: $3,625 — Casper’s Connections from Georgian Downs: Robert Reid, Jr., Robert Reid, Sr., John Stergiou
• Third: $1,740 — Chicken Hawks from Western Fair: Scott Wray, Steve Bossence, Jack Wray
• Fourth: $1,160 — Condor from Western Fair: Gary, Ann and Chris Revington
• Fifth: $725 — Team Geisel from Hanover : Gene Geisel, Clare Doerr, Frank Girimonte
ROMP extends its appreciation to all players who participated in this league — the first of its kind in Ontario . The group plans to host the second annual ROMP Handicapping league in January of 2011.
