Veeneman On Baymount Updates

The Belleville Intelligencer yesterday published two articles pertaining to the standardbred racing industry in

the area. The first report is in regard to an upcoming NCRHHA contract ratification meeting. The second article deals with Pacrim Hospitality Services Inc.'s new involvement with the ongoing situation.

The first article explains that the National Capital Region Harness Horse Association will be holding a ratification meeting on March 11 to vote on a tentative agreement between itself and Baymount.

NCRHHA executive director Russ Moulton and Baymount's VP of operations Ray Veeneman both commented in the piece.

“In the deal we have some specialties,” Moulton was quoted as saying. “Baymount has made some concessions to us to get the agreement with us.”

“Everybody will benefit from the agreement," Veeneman said. "Our (Baymount's) goal is to see the horsemen race.”

The article also states that Veeneman said it does not matter which horsemen's organization (OHHA or NCRHHA) represents the horsemen, as a local representative will be looking out for them.

Another part of Baymount's multi-tiered announcement -- released late yesterday -- states that it has entered into a 'memorandum of understanding' with Pacrim Hospitality Services Inc.

The release states that the understanding will see Pacrim purchase Baymount's excess lands at the Bell Boulevard location and develop a hotel and water park (an April 24, 2009 expiration date is designated in the agreement.).

“There isn’t really a lot of details I can divulge,” Veeneman was quoted as telling The Belleville Intelligencer. “We have a great relationship with them and they are very, very interested in pursuing this with us.”
