The Track On 2 will kick off its 2026 spring meet on Sunday, March 8 as the one-mile Lacombe, Alta. oval hosts an eight-race program beginning at 1:10 p.m. MDT.
The feature on the opening-day card is an optional-claiming event with a purse of $5,300. Came A Cavalier, starting from the outside post seven, aims for his fourth straight win after three victories in $10,000 claimers at Century Mile. The seven-year-old Brinsley Brooking-Lutz trainee has Phil Giesbrecht listed to drive. Mylittle Gingerman was second to Came A Cavalier in back-to-back starts in January and returns to The Track On 2 off a hard-charging show finish at Century Mile on Jan. 31. He hit the board in all seven of his starts at the Lacombe track last season, including two victories, and will look for his first win of the year for trainer-driver Kelly Hoerdt as he starts from post five in the Sunday headliner. Rapido Dom has drawn post four following repeat scores in the $7,000 claiming level at Century Mile in January. The eight-year-old stallion, trained by Travis Tracey, is two-for-three in 2026. He is seeking his first career victory at The Track On 2. Also in the field are Blue Powder (PP1), Record High (PP2), Lukes Proclamation (PP3) and No Collusion (PP6).
Mike Hennessy has drives in all eight races on the card to begin his defence of the driving title. With six-time reigning training champion David Kelly currently plying his trade in Ontario, the battle for the trainers’ trophy is wide open this season.
Trot Insider has learned that The Track On 2 has cancelled the previously scheduled season opener on Saturday, March 7 due to a lack of entries.
The Track On 2 will host racing on Saturdays and Sundays in March, ending on March 29, with post time each day at 1:10 p.m. MDT. The summer meet will then run from July to September, with the track holding racing on Sundays from July 19 until adding Saturdays in September and one Monday date on Sept. 7 before ending on Wednesday, Sept. 16.
