The well-bred three-old trotting filly Kelsie Awaiting was the sales topper in the Preferred Equine Online Mixed Sale that concluded on Monday, March 4.

Consigned by PEO as agent for Ken Jacobs, the unraced daughter of Walner and full sister to multiple stakes winning Walner Payton (pictured above) topped the auction with a purchase price of $310,811. With multiple bidders during the extended time, Kelsie Awaiting — a $525,000 USD yearling — was purchased by one of the sport's leading breeders, Crawford Farms, LLC.

Recent Meadowlands winner Sheer Terror (p,4,1:49.4-’24) was hammered down for $121,622 to Mark Howard. The Always B Miki gelding paced to a new career best on Saturday, March 2 at The Meadowlands and should be a contender in the upcoming four-year-old events.

Early Action was the next highest lot, selling to David Rovine Stable, LLC, agent. The five-year-old Huntsville gelding sold for $83,784. Both Sheer Terror and Early action were sold by PEO, agent for the partnership of Val D’Or Farms and Ted Gewertz, and U.S. Hall of Fame trainer Joe Holloway.

Sale proprietor and manager David Reid was pleased with both the results and the overall participation in this and previous sales.

“It’s been two years since we launched our online sales division,” he said. “First and foremost, I continue to be pleased with the continued success our sales graduates have had for their owners; also our customers are understanding the level of customer service the PEO staff delivers across the industry.

“There are no boundaries with our online sales. Participation in our sales platform has come from literally everywhere -- Europe, Southern Hemisphere, East Coast, West Coast, Canada and the Midwest. That was the case once again at this week’s sale.”

In total, 12 lots sold for $726,960, equalling a strong average of nearly $61,000 in the Monday event.

Preferred Equine Online is currently on a every other week schedule, with the next auction slated for Monday, March 18.
