Hesincontrol snuck up the pylons for an 11-1 upset in the $43,800 final of the Ontario Boys Pacing Series on Friday night (March 4) at Woodbine Mohawk Park.

Doug McNair worked out the winning trip aboard Hesincontrol after a pair of third-place finishes in the preliminary legs of the series for Ontario-sired four-year-old horses and geldings that were non-winners of $75,000 lifetime as of October 31, 2021.

The winners of the first two rounds controlled the tempo, with No Free Lunch (James MacDonald) overtaking Take A Gamble (Travis Cullen) after a :28 opening quarter then leading through a half in :56 and three-quarters in 1:23.4. But in the end, Hesincontrol took charge as he scooted through from sixth, sprinting a :26.1 final quarter to win by 1-1/2 lengths in 1:51.2, equalling the fastest mile in Canada so far this season. Century Hannibal (Sylvain Filion) edged past No Free Lunch and Take A Gamble late for the runner-up honours.

A four-year-old son of Control The Moment, Hesincontrol is trained by Lyle MacArthur for owners Linda Wellwood of St. George Brant, Ont., and Tammy Aspden of Caistor Centre, Ont.  He now has three wins from eight starts in 2022 and a half-dozen victories lifetime.

Hesincontrol returned $25.30 for a $2 win ticket.

In other series action, a $25,000 final of a Pop-Up fillies and mares event was won by the late-closing Outlaw Imahotvixen, who also pulled off an 11-1 upset, for the Cullen family. Owned by trainer Jodie and Ron Cullen and driven by their son Travis, the eight-year-old Blue Burner mare prevailed in 1:55 by a neck over Naughty Lady N (Trevor Henry) and American Tour N (Jonathan Drury), with 2-1 favourite Kat (James MacDonald) next in the four-across finish. Outlaw Imahotvixen paid $24.30 to win.
