The trip was perfect and the end result was sweet for Cue Hall, who turned a pocket trip into a 9-1 upset win in Monday’s $34,000 Preferred Trot at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
Cue Hall took the early lead – and an easy one at that – for driver James MacDonald, but after cutting the opening quarter in :29.3 Cue Hall was overtaken in the backstretch by even-money favourite B Yoyo.
In search of his fourth straight win in the class, B Yoyo continued to lead the field through middle panels of :58.4 and 1:27.3. But when confronted in the late going he gave way to Cue Hall who popped out of the pocket and used his :27.2 closing speed to win by a half-length margin over B yoyo in 1:55.2. Free Willy Hanover was a lapped-on third.
Rod Boyd trains the seven-year-old son of Andover Hall-Curli Cue for owner/breeder Robert Key of Leechburg, PA. It was the second win of the season – and the 20th to date – for the career winner of $452,986.
