Im So Handsome to the front after the quarter and blew home riding the tailwind to a one-and-three-quarter length victory in the $8,800 featured pace on Saturday, March 31 at Buffalo Raceway.
After tussling with China Dream to an opening split of :29.2, Im So Handsome took over, sprinting with the aid of a tailwind to the half in :55.2, gaining a large lead as a result.
From there, driver John Cummings Jr. and Im So Handsome cruised home the rest of the way to win over Always N The Money and Mach Stockn Barrel.
The victory was the third of the season for Im So Handsome, by Hot Pans-Cheyenne. The seven-year-old gelding, owned by Mike Torcello and trained by Gerry Sarama, has now earned $21,629 in 2018 and $149,472 lifetime. He paid $9.50 to win.
Long-time Western New York owner and trainer Bob Gruber, 52, passed away on Saturday morning after having a medical emergency on the track during training. He conditioned 1,235 winners in his career and amassed nearly $4.8-million in purse earnings. There will be more information posted when details become available.
Racing will resume on Wednesday, April 4 at 5 p.m. with a 12-race program scheduled.
