It has been reported that the Auckland SPCA recently seized 17 standardbreds, including an 'American-bred stallion,' from a property on the outskirts of Christchurch

, New Zealand.

An article on horsetalk.co.nz does not disclose the name of the stallion, but it does cite Sandra Shearer, head of the Auckland SPCA Horse Welfare Auxiliary, as saying that the condition of the horses on the farm ranged from 'poor' to 'average.'

The report also cites Shearer as saying that a total of 16 horses, mostly mares and some young bloodstock, are now on 10 acres of good grazing; that the stallion had been taken to a separate location, and that six other horses were euthanized.
