Trainer Connie Kolthammer's homebred Outlaw C My Shadow pulled off a 12-1 upset at Fraser Downs in the Friday, March 28 feature, with his full brother Outlawstaythcourse also hitting the board at 12-1.

With the three inside starters taking off in a contested :26.3 opening panel, Outlaw C My Shadow and driver Tyson Jacoby watched from fourth and waited until the backstretch to make the winning move in the $8,500 high-level pace.

Rum N Raisins (John Abbott) had forged to the lead in the early going over Outlawstaythcourse (Dave Hudon) while One Tough Beachboy (Robert Scrannage) was left parked out through a half in :55.4. The trip was too tough this night for One Tough Beachboy, who began to tire on the backstretch, prompting 3-5 favourite Tzilacatzin (Scott Knight) three-wide from behind to get by while Outlaw C My Shadow was able to get the jump on the bettors' choice at the inside.

Outlaw C My Shadow slipped out and raced first-up to confront the leading Rum N Raisins while keeping Tzilacatzin hung out. Outlaw C My Shadow was neck and neck with Rum N Raisins at three-quarters in 1:24 and those two continued their battle into the stretch where the former drew clear to win in 1:53.1 by 2-1/4 lengths. Whiplash Smile (Rod Therres), the longest shot on the board at 13-1, closed quickest of all from the backfield to place while Outlawstaythcourse, who was briefly interfered with during the opening tussle, rallied through the passing lane to nab third-place honours over Rum N Raisins.

Outlaw C My Shadow and his season-debuting younger brother Outlawstaythcourse are both sons of Shadow Play out of Grand Slam Woman, co-owned by Kolthammer as part of Outlaw West Stable. Outlaw C My Shadow earned the first win of his eight-year-old campaign following a fourth-place finish in his season's debut a week ago in the Preferred class (not carded this week). He now boasts 24 career victories with earnings topping the $200,000 mark.

A $2 win bet on Outlaw C My Shadow returned $27.70. He led a triactor worth $1,809.20.
