Oney Hall won six-in-a-row upon entering the stable of trainer Bob McIntosh, but after that the trotter did an about face and made breaks in four of his next five assignments.
Despite those repeated setbacks, the five-year-old son of Deweycheatumnhowe-On With The Show got the train back on the tracks with a solid score in Monday’s $24,000 trotting feature at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
Trevor Henry got away third with the even-money favourite while Bautista marched to the top and sliced out the opening quarter in :28.4. Henry hit the accelerator in the backstretch and sent Oney Hall from third to first well before the field hit the mid-way point. Oney Hall cruised through middle panels of :58 and 1:27 before scooting home in :28.2 to win by a half-length margin over All Wrapped Up in 1:55.2. Dream Nation was third.
Oney Hall, who is owned by Alan Leavitt of Lexington, KY, won for the first time this season in four attempts. The 14-time winner, who went 8-for-13 last season, has banked $157,227 to date.
