Special Meeting Wednesday, April 4
The Quebec horsemen’s association, ATAQ, is holding a special meeting Wednesday, April 4 in Montreal to present, discuss and vote on a proposed 15-year contract with the Quebec Jockey Club.
The unusual length of the deal stems from the fact the QJC, a non-profit corporation, is in the process of buying Hippodrome Trois-Rivieres and wants some assurance of long-term collaboration with its partners, the horsemen.
ATAQ’s board will meet Monday to determine its recommendation to members.
The association is down to about 500 members, a tenth of the number from the boom years of standardbred racing in Quebec.
The meeting is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at Ruby Foo’s, 7655 Decarie Blvd., in Montreal.
