Ladyterra displayed sheer determination and overcame a tough trip to capture the $12,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred Handicap Pace at The Raceway at Western Fair District on Wednesday, March 26.

Sports Dutchess (Travis Henry) was first to claim the early lead, but 1-9 favourite Saulsbrook Olympia (Tyler Borth) quickly took command, setting the opening quarter in :28.1. As the field approached the half in :58.1, Ladyterra and catch-driver Sam Fillion, who took the lines from Borth for the night, launched a first-over attack, grinding their way toward the leader at 13-1 odds. They continued their relentless pursuit past three-quarters in 1:27.2, refusing to back down despite a taxing trip on the outside for most of the mile.

Turning for home, a three-wide battle unfolded, but Ladyterra dug in with the most fight left, surging past Saulsbrook Olympia in the final strides to secure a hard-fought victory in 1:57.3 by a quarter of a length. Saulsbrook Olympia held for second, while Southwind Stratus (Austin Sorrie) delivered a game effort to finish third.

Trained by Zach Carroll for owner Karen Carroll of Shedden, Ont., Ladyterra is a five-year-old mare by Sweet Lou out of Queen To Me. This victory marks her second win of the 2025 season and the 10th of her career, pushing her seasonal earnings to $17,960 and lifetime earnings to $123,913.
