Theseyesrcrying and trainer-driver Serge Masse wore down pacesetter Red Star Tyson to capture the $22,500 Wendell Smith Memorial Stake for three-year-old B.C.-owned, sired or bred pacing colts on Saturday afternoon at Fraser Downs

Red Star Tyson and trainer-driver Richard Craig took control of the field of eight from Post 5 and carved out fractions of :27.4, :57.4 and 1:26. Meanwhile, Masse had moved this year’s Keith Linton Memorial winner Theseyesrcrying out from fourth after the opening quarter and was looming in the first over position. The roan ridgling kicked into high-gear around the final turn and collared the leader down the stretch before extending his margin of victory to two and a quarter lengths. The son of Mach Three-Star Magic stopped the clock in 1:55.2. Red Star Tyson settled for the runner-up spot with Crown Isle (Kevin Anderson) four lengths behind in third.
The winner returned $2.70 as part of the 1-5 favoured entry.
Theseyesrcrying has won half of his 10 starts this year to earn nearly $40,000 for Masse and co-owner James Vinnell of Langley, B.C. Lifetime, he boasts a record reading 6-4-4 in 18 starts with a bankroll of $46,450.
