Mach Away wired a compact field of five to win the first Open event of Century Downs Racetrack and Casino's 2017 meet on Saturday afternoon (March 25).
Leaving from post two, Bryan Brook's Mach Three-Digga Digga mare took command right off the gate in the $9,500 top distaff pace and maintained a two-length lead through fractions of :29.1, :58.3 and 1:27 en route to the 1:58 victory. Trainer Rod Hennessy's son Mike drove the seven-year-old, who was also victorious during the meet's Opening Day card last weekend and paid $2.60 to win as the 1-5 favourite.
Red Star Katrina (Tyler Redwood), Lissoy (Kelly Hoerdt), American Passion (Nathan Sobey) followed in second through fourth, while Skade (Brandon Campbell) pulled up in the opening turn with broken equipment.
Mach Away earned her 31st career win and increased her bankroll to $157,592.
The Rod Hennessy stable has hit the ground running this meet, adding to its four wins from Opening Day with another three on Saturday's eight-race card. Remember Terror ($5.40) and repeat winner Thats It ($5.40) completed Hennessy's training triple.
