The Bronx Bumper was sent off at 1-5 odds on the toteboard and he didn't disappoint on that proposition in easily taking down the field in the featured $8,200 trot at Buffalo Raceway on Friday night (March 24).
Drawing the rail and having the services of red-hot driver Jim Morrill Jr., The Bronx Bumper ($2.50) allowed Lucky Pablo and City Kid tussle for the lead before making a charge to take command just before the quarter pole. Posting fractions of :30, :59.2 and 1:29.2, The Bronx Bumper enjoyed the fresh spring air down the stretch and easily cruised to the dialed down length victory over Lucky Pablo (Drew Monti) in a seasonal-best 1:58.1 over the fast track. City Kid (Larry Stalbaum) held on for the show position.
Owned by Michael Torcello and trained by Gerry Sarama, The Bronx Bumper (Ken Warkentin-Carolina Hall) has now won five times in 11 appearances in 2017. The win pushed his seasonal earnings to $23,160 and lifetime bankroll to $177,074.
Monti finished the evening with three victories while Morrill Jr. and Stalbaum had doubles. Steven Weaver had two training wins.
Racing will continue on Saturday night at 6 p.m. with 11 races scheduled.
