Star Photo Stays Perfect In 'Raindrop'

Star Photo doubled up in the Raindrop Series at Rideau Carlton Raceway on Friday night and kept his four-race career record in mint condition

The three-year-old chestnut gelding rallied home from second over to win the first of three $6,700 second leg divisions in a career-best 2:00.2 for trainer-driver Robert Robinson. The popular Star Photo paid $3.70 to win over another first leg winner, Erge Baboche. The son of Classic Photo out of T V Star Kosmos is owned by Stephanie and Brian Cassell of Gloucester, Ont.

Seven-year-old mare Katies Victory, driven by John MacDonald, took back after an early battle for the lead, but later swept to command and opened up six and a half lengths on the field to score in 2:00 for trainer Ronald MacDonald and owner Shelley Gass of Cornwall, P.E.I. The S Js Photo-Questionable Katie mare, who was a regular competitor in the top trotting class on the East Coast in previous years, paid $9.80 to win for the second time in eight seasonal starts in Ottawa.

In the final division, the Nike Fife-trained and Gord Brown-driven Capo Dolce survived a first over journey to win by two lengths in 2:00.3 for Asa Farm of Norwood, Ont. The Muscles Yankee-Pizza Dolce five-year-old is now two-for-seven this year. He is a half-sibling to Ontario Sires Stakes standouts Miss Paris and Bella Dolce.

The Raindrop Series is for non-winners of $15,000 (fillies and mares $18,750) lifetime as of Dec. 31, 2011.
