Leading every step in the feature last week, Blake MacIntosh trainee Beach Moment uncorked another speed show and held off a three-pronged late charge to narrowly win the $12,000 Fillies and Mares Preferred Pace at The Raceway at Western Fair District on Wednesday night (March 22).
Driver Travis Henry hustled the five-year-old Control The Moment mare from post seven to the point and clicked a :27.1 first quarter, :56.3 half and 1:25.1 three-quarters before the backfield readied their charge for home. Beach Moment shortened in stride but battled at the inside as Escape The House, Saulsbrook Jessie and Born A Dragon all barrelled into contention and took aims at the pacesetter late. In the blanket finish, Beach Moment stayed tough and kept a nose in front at the finish of a 1:55.4 mile with Escape The House taking second, Saulsbrook Jessie finishing third and Born A Dragon ending up fourth.
MacIntosh co-owns Beach Moment with Hutt Racing Stable. She won her 16th race from 72 starts and has now banked $173,750. She paid $8.80 to win.
