The connections of Perfetto, Canada's reigning two-time Older Trotting Horse of the Year, are targeting a trip overseas to compete on the international stage this spring.

A starting spot in the 2022 Elitloppet, Sweden’s top invitational trotting event which will take place on May 29 at Solvalla Racetrack, is currently on their radar.

“Solvalla has been in contact with us, and we are definitely excited to go if we get that far,” trainer/driver Dagfin Henrisken told Trot Insider. “It's a once in a lifetime opportunity.”

The Norwegian horseman has attended the Elitloppet as a spectator in the past and competed during the weekend-long racing event, but Perfetto would be the first horse he has trained to race on Elitloppet day.

Owned by Gerald Haggerty of Camden East, Ont., the seven-year-old Majestic Son gelding is a career winner of 25 races and just over $700,000 with a lifetime mark of 1:51.4 taken last fall at Woodbine Mohawk Park. Eleven of his victories have come competing at the Preferred level.

Perfetto has earned two wins and a pair of seconds so far this year following a career-best season in 2021 during which the stakes-placed trotter put together a record reading 7-6-5 from 24 starts and banked a quarter of a million dollars.
