Im Tu Die For and Sweet Like Candy kicked off Friday's harness racing card at Fraser Downs with a pair of wire-to-wire victories in the $7,500 Penny Bath Memorial eliminations for three-year-old pacing fillies that are B.C owned, bred or sired.
With the inside post advantage Im Tu Die For ($8.70) cruised through fractions of :29.2, 1:00.2 and 1:30 en route to a 2:00.3 one length score in the opener for trainer-driver Glenn White. Favourite Hurts So Bad, driven by Serge Masse, recovered from an early break to place while Crown And Ginger and Tim Brown finished third.
The Allamerican Cobalt-Gypsy Soul filly, who notched her second career win while making her 10th start, is owned by Ron Julien of Langley, B.C.
Trainer-driver Masse later clicked with the second elimination's favourite, Sweet Like Candy ($2.30), after leading through fractions of :29.4, 1:01 and 1:30.2. The filly sprinted home in :28.4 to win by nearly two lengths in 1:59.1. Judys Lass, driven by Jim Marino, and Fast Lane Ferrari, with Keith Clark aboard, followed in second and third.
The American Ideal-Ali Badali filly, who finshed second in last week's Muriel Fornwald Memorial, has won five of her 16 races. She is owned by Lucy Raymond of Surrey, B.C. and Roger McDow of Las Vegas, Nevada.
The $15,000 Penny Bath Memorial Final will be held next Friday, March 29.
