Bucktober is no stranger to the headlines and returned to the top once again in the Wednesday (March 20) evening Preferred Handicap Trot at The Raceway at the Western Fair District. However, the Katie MacNeil student had to climb from last to first to earn the winner's share of the $11,600 purse.
Bucktober and Tyler Borth got away last in the field scratched down to five. After panels in :28.3 and :58.3, Bucktober moved into fourth as Insanity (Jason Ryan) stepped backwards. With the field now standing at four in contention, Bucktober continued with a view of the field ahead at the three-quarters in 1:28.3. With a zippy :30.1 final panel, Bucktober swooped the group to win by one length in 1:59.4. Stablemate Johnny Buckshot (Scott Wray) took second and favoured Dahlquist Hanover (Travis Henry) had to settle for the show spot.
Tyler Borth, William Borth and Karen Sparling own the five-year-old Flanagan Memory-Armbro Equinox gelding. Bucktober moved his seasonal tally to 3-2-2 in nine starts and career record to 22-4-8 in 55 starts. He now owns $132,840 in career earnings. He returned $6.20 to win as the 2-1 second choice.
