Ordered outside her rivals after back-to-back, front-end wins in the Fillies & Mares Open Pace at Fraser Downs, Prairie Illusion continued her winnings way with a revised racing strategy in this week's $10,500 top distaff pace featured on the Sunday (March 20) card of harness racing.
After trailing the six-horse field through a :28.4 opening panel over the sloppy track, 2-1 favourite Prairie Illusion and Bill Davis rushed up to confront the leading mare Wrapped To Go (Brandon Campbell). The defending class champion took the lead at the half-mile mark in 1:00.1 and proceeded to three-quarters in 1:28. Down the stretch, Wrapped To Go battled back, but came up a neck short as Prairie Illusion hit the wire in 1:57.3. Sheezgotdawoogies (Jim Marino) tracked the winner's cover and continued first over when she cleared to finish in a show photo with Ashlynn Grace (John Chappell) three-quarters of a length behind.
Heather Sifert owns and trains Prairie Illusion, who has won her last three of 10 starts this year. The seven-year-old daughter of Mach Three out of Twin B Magical is now a 30-time career winner with over $260,000 in purse earnings to her name.
