After notching his first-ever win in the Open Pace at Woodbine Racetrack last Saturday evening, Astreos Flash returned to the Rexdale, Ontario oval
and experienced some déjà vu.
The streaking six-year-old son of Astreos-Cam Boo Angel used his off-the-pace skills to register a 1:51.3 victory for driver Rick Zeron one week ago, but he did all the road work in this week’s assignment en route to a 1:51 score.
Jody Jamieson, who opted off the Shawn Robinson pupil in order to drive Hyperion Hanover in last week’s Open Pace, didn’t make the same mistake this week. When given the chance to be reunited with Astreos Flash he did so in a New York minute.
Jamieson hustled the gifted gelding to the top from Post 5 and had the field at his mercy as he whizzed by the quarter pole in :27.1. Middle splits of :56 and 1:23.3 were a piece of cake for Astreos Flash, who roared home in :28.2 to freeze the teletimer in 1:51. Hyperion Hanover, who enjoyed a pocket trip through the mile, was next best and Keystone Horatio completed the Triactor ticket.
Purchased earlier this year by partners Brenton Harris, Stephen Johnson and Gerrie Tucker for an undisclosed sum, Astreos Flash improved his 2010 record to 5-1-0 in 10 starts. Since the acquisition the pacer has constructed a 4-1-0 record in five assignments. The $25,000 payday bumped this year’s bankroll to $96,440 and his overall cash stash to $320,990.
