The Loan Ranger Wins By A Lip

It was a nip and tuck battle to the finish line in Monday’s $8,500 Preferred 3 for horse and gelding pacers at The Raceway at Western Fair District, and when the dust settled it was The Loan Ranger coming away victorious in the eight-horse affair.

The Loan Ranger, who was paired up with driver Scott Young, turned a second-over trip into a narrow triumph – which was music to the ears of the longshot players who backed the gelding at odds of 10-1.

Young slid his charge into an early four-hole while Reel shot to the top and sliced out fractions of :28, :57.3 and 1:26.3. Late Nite made a first-over bid for the lead on the way to the half, and that’s when Young started up his charge and nabbed a second-over tow. The Loan Ranger went three-wide going to the three-quarter pole, and he then used a :29.4 closing panel to prevail by a nose over Reel in 1:56.3. Deadly Action took home third prize.

Peter Core trains the five-year-old son of Up The Credit-Mystical Seelster for Donald & Heather McGregor of Camlachie, Ont. The victory was the second of the season for the homebred who is closing in on $90,000 in lifetime earnings.
