Now that the weather is starting to get warmer and there's more hours of daylight in the evening, you may be itching to get outside and run. If you’re looking for a fun way to get motivated to lace up, we’ve got a great running race for you!
Giddy Up & Gallop is back for 2014 at Mohawk Racetrack and promises to be bigger, better and more fun than ever! Mark Sunday, May 25 on your calendar and join us for the running experience of a lifetime!
Here’s your chance to bring the whole family out for a fun event and raise some money for a great charity! Proceeds from this year’s 5K Run and One Lap Kids Fun Run will benefit the Friends of We Care, which is an organization that sends physically disabled children to specialized summer camps to give them a camp experience they’ll never forget.
Sydney Weaver, one of harness racing’s biggest fans and now a harness horse owner is an Ambassador for Friends of We Care. In the past she has spearheaded several fundraising efforts at Mohawk for this charity.
In past years, the Giddy Up and Gallop Fun Run has raised funds for the Standardbred Racetrack Chaplaincy, The Children’s Wish Foundation, the Chase MacEachern Foundation and The Equestrian Association for the Disabled.
Event Details:
See what it’s like to run on Canada’s fastest racetrack. The track is seven-eighths of a mile long, so runners will be required to complete a little more than three laps for the 5K event. Your friends and family members can sit in the grandstand or stand trackside and cheer you on! The race will also be shown on the infield jumbotron.
Opening ceremonies will kick off at 10 a.m. There will be a warm up and a special Mascot Race at a distance of 50 metres before the two main races. The one lap Fun Run for kids under the age of 14 will start at 10:30 a.m. and the field for the 5K event will go behind the starting gate at 10:45 a.m.
Following the run there will be a complimentary breakfast and awards ceremony for all participants.
The cost to participate in the 5K is $35 if you sign up before May 1. The kids one lap fun run is $10.
The first 100 registered runners in the Kids Fun Run will receive a FREE souvenir t-shirt. There is a limit of 250 runners for the 5K event and 100 runners for the Kids One Lap event.
