Andy Over returned to Flamboro Downs to deliver a gate-to-wire victory in the featured conditioned trot on the 10-race Sunday, March 17 card.
In the field scratched down to six competing for the $10,500 prize, driver Ed Hensley left aggressively from post five to strike the front through an opening quarter of :28.1. The 1-5 favourite continued to lead to the half in :58.4 before coming under pressure from O Narutac Perfetto and Austin Sorrie. The duo battled up the backstretch to three-quarters in 1:27.4 as Run Like Hill and Samuel Fillion stalked from third.
The battle raged on the final turn before Andy Over and Hensley utilized their inside advantage on the turn and were 1-1/2 lengths clear at the top of the stretch. O Narutac Perfetto remained persistent, continuing to bear down on Andy Over while Run Like Hill took his shot up the passing lane. Andy Over proved tough on the lead, digging in to fend off O Narutac Perfetto by a head on the line in 1:57.4.
Co-owned by Ed Hensley along with trainer Ashleigh Hensley, the seven-year-old gelded son of Andovers Son-Victory Love earned his fourth victory of the season through 10 starts and 32nd career victory. The win nudged Andy Over's career bankroll ever closer to the quarter-million dollar mark, having now banked $245,442 lifetime.
