Last year’s Horse of the Year at Saratoga Casino and Raceway has come back in top form to start 2012 and on Friday, the five-year-old recorded his first victory of the season

.

Lorenzo Dream visited the winner’s circle 16 times, compiling over $155,000 in earnings en route to being named the track’s Horse of the Year.

Following a strong third place finish in his seasonal debut last week, the son of Taurus Dream proved up to the task in Friday’s $17,500 Open Trot. Driver Billy Dobson moved the 7-5 favourite out to the early lead and never looked back, stopping the timer in 1:56.1 for the convincing victory. Howd That Feel (Brian Cross) was the runner-up in the Open for the second consecutive week while last week’s winner of the Friday feature, millionaire Grain Of Truth (Ray Schnittker), came on for third.

Lorenzo Dream is owned by Vince Laurenzo of Clifton Park, New York and trained by Jackie Rousse.

Billy Dobson, the leading driver in the early stages of the 2012 campaign, registered four wins on the Friday card.
