For the second straight week, Joey The Jet JT trotted home in 1:55.4, good enough to get the winner's circle again to win the Wednesday feature race, the $30,000 St. Patrick's Day Open Handicap Trot at Dover Downs
.
Joey The Jet JT sat patiently as Chosen Voyageur and Ron Pierce cut out the early fraction and appeared strong until halfway down the lane when a convoy of challengers were on the move behind the leader. In the closing strides Joey The Jet JT and Ross Wolfenden were coming the fastest and outlegged Daryl Bier-driven Jeter Marvel to get to the wire first. Early Shirley, with driver Jack Parker Jr., the only mare in the select field, also closed with a rush and finished a close-up third.
Eric Ell conditions the game Joey The Jet JT, a Wesgate Crown-NV Becky gelding, for Ken Wood and Bill Dittmar. It was his third win in eight races this year for the $39,540 winning seven-year-old.
