Lolique confidently pulled the pocket early and didn’t stop pouring it on until he had won the $25,000
Preferred Handicap trot Tuesday at the Meadows in 1:53.4, a track record for aged geldings.
Sitting second behind Universal Star in a quick front half of :56.1, Bill Fahy asked Lolique for trot before the three-quarters pole. The six-year-old gelded son of Tagliabue--Crystal Vic responded with last panels of :28.2 and :29.1, scoring by four lengths over Primo Spur. Universal Star finished third.
The previous track record of 1:54.2 was held jointly by Sweet Deal Hanover and Prism K.
Lolique’s mile equaled his career best and was the fastest trotted in 2009 on any five-eighths mile track. John Wagner trains Lolique, who pushed his bankroll past $400,000, for Pamela Wagner and Scott Woogen.
