A dominant trotter named Brawn Seelster and the dynamic duo of trainer Mark Winacott and driver Gord
Brown stole the show on Tuesday at Kawartha Downs.
Brawn Seelster swept to an impressive score in the $16,400 Preferred Trot for trainer/driver Callie Rankin, who also shares ownership on the photogenic son of Berndt Hanover with partner Jeff Goreski of Richmond Hill, ON.
The seven-year-old gelding survived a first over trip en route to posting his fifth win of the season in just eight tries. He halted the teletimer in 1:57.1. Oaklea Nolan was second best in the six-horse affair, while SOS Starmania rounded out the top three.
Brawn Seelster, who was sent off as the 4-5 favourite, struck for the 38th time in his career. The winner’s share of the purse bumped his lifetime earnings to $405,882.
The Tuesday card also proved to be a profitable day at the office for trainer Mark Winacott and driver Gord Brown.
Winacott and Brown joined forces to win four races on the 11-race card, and Brown added another catch-driving score to bring his daily win haul to five.
Island Of Luck (1:56.4), Bookie (1:56), Stepaside Larry (1:54) and Lasensa (1:57.2) were winners for the high profile horsemen, and Brown tacked on another win thanks to a sharp victory behind the Laura Winacott-trainer Cocktail Shaker (2:00.3).
Brown is on the verge of surpassing $12 million in career earnings, while Winacott is inching closer to the $5 million mark.
