Majorca N impressed in her North American debut, circling all six of her rivals with a :26.3 late burst to capture Wednesday's (March 16) $32,500 Fillies and Mares Open/Preferred Handicap Pace at Dover Downs.
Odds-on favourite Shes Pukka N, driven by Tony Morgan, used a :26.3 first quarter to clear Feeling Sweet before rating a :56.3 half. Up the backstretch, Shes Pukka N faced pressure from Disturbed Hanover, who advanced steadily from fifth and towed Majorca N With her nearing three-quarters in 1:24.4. At the top of the stretch, Corey Callahan switched Majorca N off cover, and the seven-year-old Art Major mare rolled to a 1:52 victory. Disturbed Hanover was second, beaten a half length; Feeling Sweet and Shes Pukka N finished in a dead heat for third.
Trainer Dylan Davis co-owns Majorca N, who paid $18.60 to win, with Michael Casalino Jr.
Tim Tetrick scored a driving triple.
In Thursday night's (March 17) $32,500 Preferred Handicap Pace, carded as race six, Penzance Hanover will seek his fourth consecutive win, but will face competition from Let It Ride N and Sprocket. The sixth race also features a $1,523 Pick-5 carryover, while the final race features a $1,337 pentafecta carryover. First post is 4:30 p.m.
