Not even a first-over journey could derail P L Jill’s winning streak, as she survived the tough trip to capture Monday’s $36,000 Preferred Trot at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
Mario Baillargeon got away third in the early going with P L Jill, who was sent off as the even-money favourite in the eight-horse affair. Big Rich powered to the lead and led the field through first-half fractions of :27.4 and :56.3.
P L Jill came first over heading towards the final turn, and she was almost on even terms with Big Rich at the three-quarter pole in 1:25.1. P L Jill used a :28.1 closing panel to draw clear in the lane, however, and she marched home to win by two lengths over Big Rich in 1:53.3. R First Class, a stablemate to the winner, was third.
Ben Baillargeon trains the seven-year-old daughter of Kadabra-Fridays Gem for owner/breeder Prince Lee Acres and co-owners Jill Coleman and Alan Christensen. The victory improved her 2020 record to 5-1-1 from nine attempts. The 29-time winner saw her bankroll climb to $631,693 with the win.
