Driver Aaron Byron took top honours -- for both the weekend card and the 2013 season -- at Kawartha Downs winning half of Saturday's 10 races.

Byron's five-bagger began with the David Gibson-trained sophomore pacing filly, Scarlet Starlet ($3.50), in the second race. He returned to the winner's circle just two races later with Des Tackoor's veteran pacer Pacific Prince ($6.40) before pulling off the biggest upset of the night with trotter Winbak Hall ($37.20) in the following race for trainer Richard Moreau. Byron later went back-to-back again in the eighth and ninth races with four-year-old pacers Click Click Caboom ($4.70), trained by Wilford Perrault, and Perfect Escape ($7.50), conditioned by Ken Sucee.

Byron's five wins gives his 24 on the year at Kawartha and catapulted him from third to first on the local leaderboard. He edged by Gord Brown (23 wins) and Brad Rae (21 wins) for the top spot.

The Cambridge, Ont. reinsman has won 43 races so far this year and 1,033 lifetime.
