A pair of North America Cup eligibles was on track this morning during the qualifying session at Mohawk
Racetrack in Campbellville, Ont.
With trainer Murray Brethour at his lines, Real Artist colt Fire On The Water recorded a two-length victory in 1:57.
The brown colt left from the rail, got away fourth and was in control at the half. The $65,000 yearling purchase rebuffed a challenge at the three-quarters pole and came home in :28.1.
The fractions were cut in :29.2, :59.1 and 1:28.4.
Fire On The Water made two starts in his freshman campaign and finished off the board in each.
Stinger Blue Chip, an NA Cup-eligible Art Major gelding, was the horse that came first-up against Fire On The Water and wound up second. Stinger Blue Chip, a $130,000 yearling purchase, was trained by Casie Coleman in 2008 and failed to hit the board in four starts.
Mr Terror, a brown Western Terror gelding, was scheduled to compete in the qualifier, but was scratched. The $43,000 yearling purchase is also eligible to the 'Cup.'
