Wasaga Beach Repeats In Dunn Memorial

Wasaga Beach got her second straight win in the Donna Dunn Memorial Pace when she zipped to the front and scored handily in Monday’s third leg at The Meadows.

Two scratches allowed Wasaga Beach to start from Post 5 rather than Post 7, and the three-year-old daughter of Somebeachsomewhere-Adela Hanover took full advantage by grabbing the early lead and powering home in a lifetime-best 1:54.4. The pocket-sitting Lucky Lucka was second, 1-1/2 lengths back, with Cedar Wapsi Road third.

Randy Bendis conditions Wasaga Beach and owns with Reed Broadway, Tom Pollack and John Campbell.

Candyapple Hanover and Rollatown also took $12,000 third-leg splits in the series for three- and four-year-old filly and mare pacers. Tony Hall enjoyed a series double behind Wasaga Beach and Rollatown.

In the $22,500 Filly & Mare Not Listed Preferred/Preferred Handicap Pace, Set Me Up dictated the fractions on top and cruised home in 1:51.2 over the pocket-sitting Certified Ideal. Medusa lacked racing room and had to settle for show.

Dave Palone drove the seven-year-old daughter of Shark Gesture-Moccasin Flight, who vaulted over $400,000 in career earnings, for trainer Ron Burke and owners Burke Racing Stable LLC and Weaver Bruscemi LLC.

Hall and Palone each piloted four winners on the 15-race card.
