Goo Goo Won used a perfect pocket trip from driver Travis Seekman to take down the $30,137 Fillies and Mares Open Handicap Pace at 7-1 on Thursday, March 12 at Harrah’s Hoosier Park.
Shooting out of post five, Goo Goo Won crossed over to the rail on top before 2-5 favourite Angel Hill (Trace Tetrick) pushed forward to the lead before the quarter in :27.1 with Yankee B Something (John De Long) in third. Angel Hill maintained control of the field down the backstretch as her nine foes followed single file to the half in 55:1. She set the pace to three-quarters in 1:23.1 and brought the field into the stretch with Yankee B Something and Goo Goo Won in pursuit.
Yankee B Something initially went by the pocket-sitter and drew even with the pacesetter, but Goo Goo Won found a seam between the duelling leaders and rallied home in :27.3 to stop the clock in 1:50.4 for her 25th career victory in 107 starts. Yankee B Something was second, three parts of a length behind the winner, with Angel Hill settling for third.
Owned by Judith Taylor, the Fred And Ginger-Malinka mare Goo Goo Won boosted her career earnings to $495,998. The seven-year-old is trained by Ron Burke. She paid $16.80 to win.
Week five at Hoosier Park will resume on Friday with a 14-race card beginning at 5:30 p.m. The Friday-night program also features $10,000 guarantees on both the Late Pick 4 (Races 11-14) and Late Hoosier High 5 (Race 14).
