Driver Brett MacDonald worked a pocket trip for Sicario and slipped into contention late to snag the $10,000 Preferred 3 Trot on Saturday (March 13) at Flamboro Downs.
Ole Jack Magic, sent the odds-on favourite, fired to the lead while Sicario settled into second. With the lead, Ole Jack Magic set a clip of :28.2, :58.4 and 1:29.2 while only facing first-over pressure from Moana moving to the final turn. But off the final turn, Ole Jack Magic broke stride, giving Sicario open road to cut the corner and slide to the lead when straightening for the beam. The Richard Moreau trainee nabbed victory by two lengths in a 1:59.4 mile over Tymal Houdini, who closed for second. Moana settled for third.
A six-year-old gelding by Holiday Road, Sicario won his 23rd race from 97 starts, earning $214,268. Pamela and John Hehn own the $5.60 winner.
