One of the leading trainers in the Maritimes is now taking his best shot at racing in the province of Ontario.
In his column for the The Guardian, Nick Oakes has spoken with conditioner Jonah Moase, who is currently filling stalls at Emerald Isle Training Centre in Troy, Ont. and has already sent out starters at Rideau Carleton Raceway, Woodbine Racetrack and Flamboro Downs.
Moase’s first Flamboro starter, the freshly-claimed Kendall Gucci, didn’t let down his backers Thursday night (March 12) at the Dundas oval, as the public’s post-time choice wired an eight-horse field in 1:57.2.
“I wasn’t really planning on (moving) but I had to do something,” Moase told Oakes. “It’s quite a bit different racing here. I’m going to stay here as long as we’re making money.”
Moase, 18, had been one of the leading conditioners on the Red Shores circuit on Prince Edward Island. He currently has five horses in his care (Doing Some Damage, Sterling Seelster, Moder Xhibit, Bakarti Arti and Kendal Gucci).
