The duo of trainer Mark Winacott and driver Steve Skilton were nearly untouchable at Kawartha Downs on Saturday, winning four times on the 10-race program.

Winacott and Skilton got the ball rolling in Race 2 with Excellence In Arts, who went wire-to-wire in 2:03.4 over a tiring racetrack. Autocrat made it back-to-backs wins for the same crew in Race 4. The trotter did most of the road work en route to stopping the clock in 2:04.4.

Bay Of Quinte pulled off an 8-1 upset in Race 7 for Skilton and Winacott, who watched the gelding prevail by a neck in 2:00.3. They completed the Grand Slam in Race 8 with Island Of Luck. The mare quarter-pole-moved to the lead and didn’t look back from that point. She drew clear to win by more than a pair of lengths in 2:00.2.

Winacott, who has dominated the standings at Kawartha Downs in the training ranks for the last numbers of years, has picked up 19 wins this season from 78 starters. The four-win performance helped him bump this year’s UTR to .346.

Skilton’s big night bumped his lifetime win total to 1,152, and it helped add to his $5.2 million bankroll.
