Horseman John MacMillan was a force to be reckoned with at Rideau Carleton Raceway on Sunday evening as he scored five wins on the 15-race card and dominated the opening leg of the Russ Moulton Memorial Series
.
MacMillan won two of the three $6,700 series divisions with three-year-old gelding Riding With P ($2.80) and three-year-old gelding Talk Back ($8.30), both driven to front end scores by Ted McDonald. The pacing series is for horses and geldings that are non-winners of $15,000 lifetime by the end of the 2011 campaign. The third and final Moulton division went to four-year-old gelding Random Artist ($12.10) and driver Guy Gagnon for trainer Brad Barr.
MacMillan also sent out the McDonald-driven four-year-old pacing mare Sydney Seelster ($2.90), who romped to an eight length victory in the second race, and four-year-old pacing gelding Adventure Bound ($22.60), who teamed up with Gord Brown to upset the seventh race.
Counting a victory Saturday night at Kawartha Downs in the Born To Trot Series, the Spencerville, Ont. conditioner ran his win streak up to five with his early Sunday successes. The streak was later halted though in the ninth race when his six-year-old trotting trainee Good Friend and Darrell Colville finished fourth, but four-year-old pacing gelding Royal Bandit ($5.80) and McDonald sent MacMillan back to the winner's circle after scoring in the 13th race.
Currently, MacMillan is the track's second leading trainer for wins and ranks among Canada's top 10 trainers this year.
