Woodbine Racetrack was evacuated early this morning after an apparently gasoline-doused man, whose identity has now been released, entered the main
building.
CP24 is reporting that a 32-year-old man entered the slots area at Woodbine and stated that he was going to hurt himself and others. Police and Emergency Task Force members eventually took the man into custody.
A report on insidetoronto.com cites Constable Tony Vella as saying that it appeared as though the gasoline-soaked man threw an item before being apprehended by security. The incident reportedly took place shortly before midnight
“The man was apprehended by casino security, but before that it looks like he threw some kind of suspicious object,” insidetoronto.com quoted Vella as saying.
Vella explained that the Emergency Task Force subsequently examined the package, and that “it was found to have no explosive materials."
The man's vehicle was searched for any additional threats, and Rexdale Blvd. was closed last night from Hwy. 27 to Humberwood Drive and was re-opened this morning shortly before 8:00 a.m.
A subsequent article by The Toronto Sun states that the 32-year-old man in question is Sinan Yukselir and that he has been charged with threatening death and mischief interfering with property.
