After securing his 4,000th driving victory a night prior, driver James MacDonald remained hot by winning five of the first seven races on Saturday, March 1 at Woodbine Mohawk Park. Meanwhile, Odds On Capitalism teamed up with driver Louis-Philippe Roy to capture the $36,000 Preferred Pace, which highlighted the 11-race card.
Sent off as the 9-2 third choice in the Preferred, Roy nestled Odds On Capitalism in the third position early from post two while 4-5 favourite Jabberwocky (Trevor Henry) cut the quarter in :28.1. The field of six went single-file to the half in :57.1 before Roy right-lined Odds On Capitalism entering the final turn. Odds On Capitalism blitzed the leader heading to three-quarters, grabbing a short lead at that station in 1:25.2.
Odds On Capitalism put away Jabberwocky at the top of the stretch, with Whichwaytothebeach (Travis Henry) poised to strike from second-over. Pacing home in :27.2, Odds On Capitalism held Whichwaytothebeach at bay by three-quarters of a length in 1:52.4. Powertrain (James MacDonald) snagged the show spot from between horses.
Trained by Rene Bourassa, Odds On Capitalism (pictured above) is now two-for-two since making the move to Mohawk from Yonkers Raceway for his new owners, Ecuries Maguire Inc. of Sainte-Marie, Que., and Daniel Gaudreault of Mont-Joli, Que. The six-year-old gelded son of Fear The Dragon-Soggy Britches now sports a career bankroll of $380,803.
The victory was one of two on the evening for Roy, but it was James MacDonald who led all drivers with five victories on the card.
After winning the opener with first time starter Stirrup Lane ($3.20, 1:55.4), MacDonald reeled off four consecutive victories between races four through seven. The four-time reigning O'Brien Driver of the Year scored with Trosa A ($2.80, 1:56.1), Roman Gladiator ($10.40, 1:57.3), Nightime Dancer ($3.20, 1:53.3) and JK Together Again ($2.10, 1:53.3).
