Delivering on her 1-5 pari-mutuel promise, Monkey On My Wheel was a repeat winner in the $30,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred Pace at Woodbine Racetrack on Friday night.
Continuing her streak from last year, Monkey On My Wheel has now won five starts in a row with Keith Oliver driving and is two-for-two to begin her five-year-old season.
Moving in one spot to post five with Docs Hope scratched from the two-hole, Monkey On My Wheel fired off the gate in the Friday feature with outside post seven starter Continual Velocity (Sylvain Filion) rolling up to establish the lead at the :26.2 first quarter pole.
However, the favourite reclaimed the lead down the backstretch and reached the half in :55.2 as Greystone Ladylike (Scott Zeron) began her first over attack from the backfield.
Monkey On My Wheel proceeded to three-quarters in 1:24.1 and was still clear on top turning for home. She opened up a pair of lengths down the lane to secure the 1:51.4 triumph while Greystone Ladylike chased her home in second. Early trailer Addison Bay (Chris Christoforou) came on for third.
The Mach Three-Legislation mare is owned by breeder Mac Nichol of Burlington, Ont., trainer Travis Umphrey of Guelph, Ont., and Timothy Kane of St. Albert, Alta. The 2011 O'Brien Award winner now boasts a lifetime record reading 17-13-4 in 48 starts with over $1.2 million banked in purses.
Monkey On My Wheel paid $2.70 to win.
