Not even a first-over journey could keep Armbro Chronicle away from the winner’s circle in the $50,000 Open Trot at Woodbine Racetrack on Monday evening
.
With Mike Saftic at the lines of the Kent Baker-trained eight-year-old son of Self Possessed, Armbro Chronicle got away fifth in the seven-horse field while Rose Run Hooligan supplied first half fractions of :28 and :57.2. That trotter felt first over pressure going into the final turn from Armbro Chronicle, who prompted the leader to the three-quarter pole in 1:26.4.
Armbro Chronicle dug in late when called on for his best stuff, and his toughness helped him surge past Rose Run Hooligan en route to the 1:55 score. Rose Run Hooligan was a determined runner-up in the trotting affair and Merited Victory shot up the rail in the closing strides to finish third.
Baker shares ownership on the 39-time winner with partners Cal Patterson, Randy Fielder and Jo Smith. It was the gelding’s second win of the season in seven tries, and the lion’s share of the purse boosted the charismatic performer’s lifetime bankroll to $1,431,952.
