Competing in The Meadows’ top distaff race for the first time, Mcgibson served notice that she could become a
fixture there, as a confident quarter-pole move carried her to victory in the $25,000 Preferred Pace.
Mcgibson won seven races and $159,113 last year at three, but she was up in class after capturing a Not Listed Preferred event last week. When Dave Palone rolled her to the front, she easily thwarted the first-over move of Shady Matilda and scored in 1:53. Francies Dream rallied from last for second while Spring Break saved show.
Kevin McDermott trains the daughter of Mcardle-Armbro Althea, who pushed her career bankroll beyond $200,000, for Fran Azur. It was one of three wins on the 15-race card for Palone.
In a $30,000 claiming trot at 1-1/4 miles, Tudy equaled the track record when he scored a Lightning Lane win in 2:28. The mark — the only trotting record on The Meadows’ books still standing from the 20th century — was established by Night Court Dan in 1997. Dick Stillings drove Tudy for trainer Buddy Stillings and owner Keith Pippi.
