Eight-year-old gelding Pine Tab made a bit of news earlier this week when he snapped his 108-race winless streak during a tilt at Yonkers Raceway. That stretch is nothing in comparison to a 27-year winless drought that was recently broken.

As an article by The Telegraph explains, breeder/owner Bill Davis of Storrington, West Sussex, snapped his almost-three-decade winless drought in mid-January, as his Ayr Of Elegance defeated five other horses during a contest at Lingfield racecourse in Surrey.

Davis’ horses had competed in roughly 250 races during the drought.

"I did think about giving up,” Davis was quoted as saying. “You think about it for a day, but then you have a night's sleep and decide to carry on.

"I think it was just madness that kept me going and searching for that first win. It's fantastic though, so wonderful. At last I finally have a winner.”
