It’s now three starts and three wins for pacing filly Sunny Dee thanks to her dominant score during Thursday’s fog-filled card at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
The Bob McIntosh-trained Sunny Dee kicked off her career with a 1:56 score on January 17, and she followed up that victory with a 1:54.2 triumph just nine days later.
She took on just five foes in Thursday’s $16,000 contest, and she and driver Trevor Henry were in no hurry in the early going. Sunny Dee nestled into the five-hole while Sea Shadows marched to the lead and served up fractions of :28.1, :57.4 and 1:26.4. Henry sent his charge first up going into the final turn, and Sunny Dee was quickly second and driving as the field headed into the final quarter of the contest.
Sunny Dee uncorked a :27.1 final frame, and that helped propel her to the win by 2-3/4 lengths over Birch Island Betty in 1:54.1. Whozyomomma was third.
Sent off as the 1-9 favourite, Sunny Dee pushed her lifetime earnings to $23,000 for Robert McIntosh Stables Inc, C S X Stables and Al McIntosh Holdings Inc. The three-year-old daughter of Sunshine Beach-West Of L A is a half-sister to L A Delight (1:49.1 - $1,782,999) and a three-quarter sister to Somewhere In L A (1:48.4 - $1,608,565).
R U Talkin extended his winning streak to four-in-a-row thanks to him come-from-behind score in his $16,000 conditioned assignment.
Bob McClure rallied to the win with the heavily-favoured Barry Bird trainee, who got up late to defeat Arukiddinmecabbie in 1:53.4. Gooderthangouda rounded out the Trifecta ticket.
The three-year-old son of Well Said-Ru In The Game is now 4-for-5 in his career for Bird and partners Gerrie Tucker and Debbie Bird. The gelding has racked up $31,700 in his career.
Thursday’s program produced a first-ever win on the circuit for teamster Nick Boyd, who guided Brydown Houston – a horse he also trains – to a maiden-breaking score in a $14,000 conditioned event.
