Prairie Illusion went from last to first in Friday night's $10,500 Open Pace for fillies and mares at Fraser Downs with driver Scott Knight in the sulky.
Prairie Illusion trailed the six-horse field early on before tipping to the outside in front of the grandstand and advancing up alongside Drawing Dead (Travis Bowman), who cut fractions of :27.3, :59 and 1:27.1 over the sloppy track. The pacesetter tried to fight off her looming rival at the top of the stretch, but Prairie Illusion charged by down the lane to score the 1:57 triumph with favourite Just One More (Brandon Campbell) kicking off her cover to place less than a length behind. Drawing Dead held on in a three-way photo for show.
Trained and owned by William Young of Langley, B.C., Prairie Illusion has now won three of her four Open class starts this year and has banked $15,750 in purse earnings.
Sent behind the gate as the 2-1 second choice, Prairie Illusion paid $6.10 to win.
