The form spree continued for Mainland Key N (Eric Goodell) Saturday night, winning Yonkers Raceway's $32,500 Open Pace
.
Leaving from post position No. 4 over a` "good" surface, the bumping-up 19-10 choice was part of an early logjam for the lead. He was in play, as was last week's winner, Southwind Tabor (Jim Pantaleano) and Dymond Joe Mindale (Brett Miller). A second-move (between a :27.4 opening quarter-mile and :57.2 half) by Mainland Key N left him pocketed behind Southwind Tabor, with Forensic Z Tam (Pat Lachance) hounding first-up.
Southwind Tabor held sway in and out the 1:26.3 three-quarters and 1:55.2 mile, but Mainland Key N ducked inside. The latter outgamed the former and completed the mile-and-one-sixteenth sojourn three-quarters of a length to the good in 2:02.2 Dragon Island (George Brennan), Smellthecolornine (Jason Bartlett) and Dymond Joe Mindale completed the cashers.
For Mainland Key N, a six-year-old Down Under Shiney Key gelding trained by Peter Tritton for owner Harry von Knoblauch, he returned $5.80 for his third win in as many seasonal starts. He's advanced from the high non-winners to the winners-over and now the Saturday night feature. The exacta paid $27.20, with the triple returning $134.
