On the heels of a 1:51.2 score in last week’s $30,000 Open Preferred Handicap at Dover Downs, Lucan Hanover outdid himself with a 1:49 triumph in Monday’s edition of the class.

Corey Callahan found himself parked with Lucan Hanover past the quarter pole in :26 before muscling to the front. From there, the powerhouse steamrolled through panels of :54.1 and 1:21.4. He used a :27.1 closing frame to win by 2-1/2 lengths over Doctor Butch in 1:49 – the fastest mile of the season in North America. Mustang Art was third.

Andrew Harris trains the six-year-old son of Western Ideal-Lauren Order for West Wins Stable of Cambridge, Ont. The win was the 20th to date for the career winner of $833,333.
