Harness racing executive and longtime Rogers TV broadcaster Steve Fitzsimmons was honoured by the hockey community this past weekend.
Fitzsimmons, who is taking a new role as General Manager at Truro Raceway in Nova Scotia after a three-season stint as GM with Ontario’s Hanover Raceway, has been the play-by-play host of the Ontario Hockey League’s Guelph Storm for the last 21 seasons.
Fitzsimmons was honoured by the Guelph Storm on Sunday after calling his final game during which the team defeated the London Knights in overtime.
In recognition of Fitzsimmons' longtime commitment to the league, Guelph Storm Vice President Matt Newby presented a $1,000 cheque to the charity of his choice, Pevs Protects, as well as a custom Storm jersey.
Fitzsimmons will relocate to Nova Scotia and begin his new position with Truro Raceway at the end of the month.
